Services for Mrs. Vera Adkison will be held at Faith Church, 4901 Pinehill Rd., on Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent. The family will be receiving friends at Boone Funeral Home in Bossier City on Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM. Mrs. Adkison passed away on March 14, 2005. She was born on February 2, 1927, in Crowley, LA. Mrs. Adkison was the most loving mother, mother-in-law, and friend to her family. She loved her God and her church. Mrs. Adkison did not miss an opportunity to be in the house of God. She had a beautiful smile, was always bubbly, fun to be around, never met a stranger, and had a contagious laugh. Mrs. Adkison was the rock to her family, and a beacon of light to anyone who needed her. Mrs. Adkison was the other-Mother to many a child that came into her home and till this day she is still that other-Mother to many. Mrs. Adkison was a very good business woman and knew how to get things done. Mrs. Adkison was a real estate broker/builder dba Ruth Pruett Realty Co, a retired Caddo Parish School bus driver, and a retired Nanny. Mrs. Adkison left her loving influence on the many children she had been a Nanny to. Mrs. Adkison is survived by her husband James W. "Dub" Adkison; children and their spouses: Vera Vaughn and her husband Gary; John David Pruett and his dearest friend Pat Brashear; step-children and their spouses: Peggy and Erven Nix, Laverne and Charley Stokes, James and Elaine Adkison, Deborah and Oscar Brunner, David and Carla Adkison; foster son Bennie L. Langley; sister Emma Juanita Goza; grandchildren and their spouses: Adrian and Stacy Pruett, Angela and Ty Summey, Jessica and Steve Rudy, Jamie Michelle and Brian Dehler, Nicole and Clint Bowlin; and a host of step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Ronald Duane Pruett; parents: Rev. John William and Minnie Inez Cook; step-son Cecil "Buddy" Adkison; and six brothers. In lieu of flower please make donations in memory of Vera Adkison to Feist Weiller Cancer Center, LSUHSC, or to the Providence House. Pallbearers will be Garland Kaylord, Ernest Norris, Archie Buie, Alton Wise, John Wallette, and Dale Simon. The family would like to thank Jean Roy for her selflessness in being our angel taxi driver for mother to and from all church functions, as well as, Pilgrim Manor Guest Care for their wonderful care over the past 3 ½ years.
