Sonia Maribel Lozano

September 1, 1951 — September 30, 2022

Bossier City

Sonia Maribel Lozano, age 71, gained a fresh set of wings on September 30, 2022 that were a direct reflection of her smile; so bright, radiant and pure.

Maribel turned a dreary, El Salvadorian day, into one filled with sunshine and delight as she made her grand entrance into the world on September 1st, 1951. While residing in San Salvador, she attended school, made many friends, spent days at the mercado, celebrated quinceañeras and started her journey into adulthood . At the young age of 27, Maribel and her son uprooted from El Salvador to be with her mother and three siblings in Shreveport, Louisiana. Maribel worked at Nicky’s Mexican Restaurant on Airline Drive for 30 plus years becoming a staple, impacting countless families with her loving smile, warm hugs and superior memory to remember orders. While she loved bonding families between chip-laden meals and good conversations, her greatest job of all, was being a mother and an abuelita. Every time she spoke of her family, which was often, she shone brighter than that of 100,000 lumens. Her son, George, was her everything and her granddaughter, Mazlyn (Mazzy) was her little princess and ray of sunshine. In her spare time, she loved creating unforgettable memories with Mazzy by playing with Barbies, winning balls out of the claw machine at Chuck E Cheese and taking strolls through the park to name a few. Maribel is preceded in death by her mother Marina Jandres and survived by her son, George Lozano and his wife, Nikki Lozano; granddaughter, Mazzy Lozano; sister, Sandra Howard; and brothers, Alvaro and Reynaldo Jandres.

Maribel had a passion for the more beautiful things in life, unless those beautiful things involved frogs. In that case, she would exclaim, “Ew! Those things are ugly!” while sticking her tongue out and shaking her head. Everything she stood for represented love and compassion, making her presence refreshing for all she came in touch with. Her strength, tenacity, dedication, faith, resilience and determination inspired many and will continue to inspire others as her legacy lives on.
