Shreveport, La. - Sigrid Anita Randall passed away on June 14th 2008, at her home as a result of ovarian cancer which she battled for four years. Since diagnosis in 2004, she went through many surgeries and chemo treatments. Anita was born in Austria on April 8, 1938, was orphaned in 1948 and came to the US in 1955. She joined the Air Force July 1956, made Staff Sergeant, and was accepted to Officer Candidate School where she received a commission as a USAF officer. Anita was married in 1963 and resigned her commission to raise her family. Anita has been a resident of Shreveport, since January 1971 when her husband LtCol (Ret) John F. Randall was stationed at Barksdale AFB. Anita graduated from Centenary College with a BA in History in 1974, a MA in Education in 1984 and a +30. She taught at Woodlawn High School from 1976 to 1999 when she retired at the age of 61. She is survived by her son Randy (Austin, TX); her daughter Karen Hiben; son-in-law Mike Hiben and grandsons Devin and Dylan Navarrete (Virginia Beach, VA.); her husband John Randall (Burke, VA); sister Edith; brothers: Ernest, Al, and Vic and their families. As an American citizen by choice, Anita has always had a deep appreciation and love for this country. She was blessed with many friends who never ceased showing their love and concern for her over the last four years of her illness. She always said that "everyone should be so lucky!" A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Boone Funeral Home, Bossier City, on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 4:00 pm. Dr. Albert Eads, Jr., CLM of Hampton Presbyterian Church will preside. Mrs. Randall's wishes were to be cremated with burial taking place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA; with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Institute for Cancer Research, 1759 R Street NW, Washington DC, 20090-7167.
