Penny Worley Obituary:

Penuel “Penny” Hayes Worley September 29, 1937 – April 20, 2025

After fighting the good fight, Penuel “Penny” Hayes Worley went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 20, 2025.

Penny was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and grew up on Cross Lake, where he and his brother Bo spent many mischievous afternoons flinging Chinaberries at their sister Jane. He attended Queensboro Elementary before the family moved "to town" where he continued school at Barrett ES, South Highlands ES, Broadmoor Junior High, and Byrd High School. It was during these years that Penny gave his life to Christ and was baptized at Shreveport’s First Baptist Church.

A proud Byrd High School Yellow Jacket, Penny was a football trainer, a member of the “Moonshiners” Social Club, and loved cruising on his blue Harley with friends. After graduating in 1955, he attended Centenary College before joining the Navy Reserves. In 1956, he eloped with the love of his life, Marlin Head. He was later drafted into the Army, where he served as a dental assistant at Ft. Bragg, NC. Following his military service, Penny furthered his education at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA

Back in Shreveport, Penny found his true calling in sales, working for Stephenson’s and then Fischer Flooring. He was a natural-born salesman—funny, personable, and full of encouragement. If you knew Penny, you probably heard him say, “What can I do for you, Shuga?”

He had a servant’s heart and a deep loyalty to family and friends. After his father passed, he visited his mother every morning for coffee — with six sugars, of course. He loved big, and though he married five times, it was his first and last wife, Marlin, who held his heart all along.

Penny is preceded in death by his love, Marlin Worley, his parents Dr. W. B. Worley and Dessie Mae Bostick Worley; grandparents Dr. Penuel Columbus Worley and Consuela Hoss Worley, and Silas Martin Bostick and Emma Jane Ross Bostick; and by his infant daughter, Carolyn Worley.

He is survived by his son, Christopher Hayes Worley; stepsons Chris Robertson (Becki) and Robbie Robertson (Kristy); siblings Bo Worley (Judy), Jane Worley Jackson (Roy), and Judy Worley Wolf; and many step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Penny’s legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and faith. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who loved him. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Tim. 4:7 A Celebration of Life for Penny will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Boone’s Funeral Home in Bossier City. In lieu of fl owers, the family requests that donations be made to Pet Savers of Shreveport in his memory. https://www.petsaversshreveport.org/about-us/
