Marion Self

Marion Dorothy Self, age 76, of Shreveport, Louisiana, walked into heaven healed and whole on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at North Caddo Medical Center in Vivian, Louisiana, surrounded by her loving family.

Marion was born August 29, 1946 in Westlake, Louisiana, to Myrton Wilford Self and Dorothy Bernice Self. She is preceded in death by both of her parents, brother, Billy Sutton, and sons James “Jimmy” Myrton Jackson and Timothy “Tim” Karl Jackson.

Marion attended Bossier High School in Bossier City, Louisiana, and went on to receive a bachelor's degree in nursing from Northwestern State University. She worked as an RN in the NICU unit at LSU Hospital and then became an RN for DCI – Dialysis Center Incorporated.

She also worked as a home health nurse and served on the Louisiana State Medical Board.

Always a caregiver in one aspect or another, Marion was the first to lend a helping hand, a shoulder to lean on, or even a place to stay. She always made sure that her family came first and put herself and her own needs and desires last, often times to a fault.

Marion faithfully attended Grace Family Worship Center in Shreveport from Mother’s Day 2022 to present where she learned about the true love, character and nature of Jesus. She looked forward to every Sunday service and would often talk about all that she was learning.

Left to cherish her memories are her sisters, Sharon Jones, Loretta Nichols, and Mollie McCoy; daughter, Melanie McMahen (Jeff), son, Robert Self (Joni), grandchildren, Timothy Ferguson, Katie Jackson, Christopher Jackson, Sadie Self, Madison Self, Cheyanna Hurst, Isaak Marin, Kody Marin, Marlee Flook, Gracelyn Flook, Juliette Flook, and Frederick “Freddie” Flook, great grandchildren, Sophia Jackson, and Gavin DelRio, her beloved dog Gidget “Lil Mama”, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends.

Celebration of Life Service for Marion D. Self will be held Saturday, April 8, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Grace Family Worship Center located at 2665 Williamson Way, Shreveport, LA, followed by a meal for the family.

Upon Marion’s wishes, interment of her remains will be placed at the burial site of her sons at Centuries Memorial Cemetery in Shreveport, LA at a later date.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the entire staff (doctors, nurses, and personnel) of North Caddo Medical Center for their professional, thoughtful, courteous and compassionate care of our mom. You went above and beyond to see to it that Mom’s wishes and needs were met, as well as ensuring the comfort of our family.

Special thanks to Dr. Corky Davis, cardiologist, for his care and gift of medicine that allowed us time to make more memories with her and gifted her many more years of life.
