In loving memory of our beloved mother, daughter, sister, Mardell Smith Thomas

Alpha- March 26, 1943-omega April 15, 2023

Mrs. Thomas was born to George Smith and Mary Thomas-Smith. She is one of five daughters, Mattie Pearl, Gertrude, Ethel Mae, and Annie Dell. In 1963, she married Willie Thomas and their union produced four children. Patricia 1963-1998, Roy 1965-1992, Terry 1966-2006, and Johnny 1967. In 1980, she gave birth to another daughter Virginia from another relationship. She retired in 2007 and lived out the rest of her life in Haughton. Mrs. Thomas helped raised 3 of her six grandchildren. She adored all of her children and grandchildren. In early 2023 her health started to decline significantly as a result she was diagnosed with uterine cancer and was determined by medical professionals to be at the end stages. We never want our loved ones to leave us but it is part of life. All have hoped that a prognosis of this latitude will turn around and some have had their hopes and prayers come true and we are so grateful for that. Unfortunately, for our family this is not the case. Those who loved mama dearly will be forever broken hearted. I believe no greater love in these perilous times is to request your loved one to be comfortable as possible as he or she lives out the remainder of their lives. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, three children, her husband, and one grandchild (Joshua). Her legacy includes one daughter ( Virginia), one son (Johnny), five grandchildren, Johnny Jr., Melissa, Rueben, Shyanne, and La’Tricia. Three great grandchildren Sophie, Aaliyah, and Kamiyah, and Dynamite ( our four legged family member) Thank you to those who have provided emotional support during this difficult time. A special thank you to all the staff at Willis Knighton, Amediys, Ms. Marsha, Bettye, and Angela for going the extra mile with our mother. Our gratitude cannot be measured! Mama you’ll forever be (our) “my girl”!
