In Loving Memory of Kay Fant Alexander
Kay Fant Alexander, affectionately known as "Kay" to family and friends and as "MawMaw" to most, of Benton, Louisiana, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and devotion to family. Born on January 20, 1945, in Columbus, Mississippi, Kay lived a life centered on the people she loved most.
She was the cherished daughter of Gracie Ruth Nicolas Fant and Leland Fant. Kay was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tommy Sr. Alexander, with whom she shared 42 years of love, commitment, and partnership. Together, they exemplified the strength, faithfulness, and dedication of a lasting marriage, setting an example for their children, grandchildren, and all who knew them.
Kay was also preceded in death by her sisters, Shelby Jean Slaven and Joan Schaply. With her passing, she became reunited with her husband, parents, and sisters, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Her greatest joy was her family. She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Toyia Herman and husband John Herman; her son, Tommy Alexander and wife Shellie Alexander; and the generations of family who were the pride of her life.
She leaves behind her grandchildren: Adam Verhalen and wife Natalie Verhalen, and their children, Gavin and Collins; Travis Verhalen and Chelsea; Luke Verhalen and wife Lindsay Verhalen, and their children, Sara Grace, Allie, and David Luke; John Herman II; and Chase Humphreys and daughter, Wrenley Kate Humphreys.
Kay loved the outdoors and treasured every opportunity to spend time camping, fishing, and creating memories with her family. Whether enjoying nature, sharing stories around a campsite, or spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she found happiness in life's simple moments and in the people she loved.
She will be remembered for her infectious laughter, generous spirit, giving heart, and unwavering love for others. Kay never met a stranger and had a remarkable way of making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Her warmth and kindness touched countless lives and created memories that will be treasured forever.
While her family mourns her loss, they celebrate a life well lived and a woman deeply loved. Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished, the values she instilled, and the love she shared so freely.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Boone Funeral Home, Bossier City, Louisiana, on Friday, June 12, 2026. Visitation to begin at 10 AM with a memorial service to follow at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in her honor.
Kay will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
