Kathleen “Kathy” Marie Burrett, 62, of Bossier City, Louisiana, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, May 8, 2026, while in the care of Gentiva Hospice. She was born on November 9, 1963, in Mt Clemens, Michigan, to John A. and Dorthy Jean Opalewski. Kathy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth, strength, and generosity touched the lives of many.
She shared 23 years of marriage with her husband, James L. Burrett, and together they built a life centered on love, family, laughter, and steadfast devotion to one another. Kathy was known for her strong spirit, her pride in her Polish heritage, and the deep love she had for her children and their accomplishments. She found joy in watching General Hospital and collecting Hello Kitty memorabilia. Those who knew her will remember her for the way she loved deeply, spoke honestly, and held her family close to her heart.
Kathy is survived by her husband, James Burrett; her children, Nicholas and Jennifer (Case) Gillim, Lisa (Gillim) and James Olaveson, Morgan (Burrett) and Ryan Young, and Adam and Brianna (Reed) Gillim; her grandchildren, Thomas, BriAnna, Michael, Xavier, Trinity, Remington, Jameson, Scarlet, and Juniper; her siblings, Daniel Opalewski, Thomas Opalewski, Mary (Opalewski) Bleich, and Diane (Opalewski) Verschueren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dorthy Jean Opalewski; her brother, James Opalewski; and her sister, Linda (Opalewski) Novinski.
A private celebration of Kathy’s life will be held at a later date in Michigan, Virginia, New Mexico, and Louisiana.
