John Scott Mercer

January 3, 1990 — February 29, 2024

"Scott" Mercer passed away in his sleep March 13, 2024, at his home in Taylortown.  Born October 30, 1968, in Bossier where he led a great life.

Scott attended grade school in Kenner, Louisiana, Brother Martin High School, and LSU Baton Rouge.  He was an active cub scout, entered middle school as a GT student, and was a member of the civil air patrol, advancing to the leader position.  He was the youngest to ever achieve that rank.  He was an ROTC cadet in high school.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was an Airborne qualified soldier.  After his tour in the Army he attended Texas A & M, achieving a degree in finance.  He worked in California for a time, then moved to Taylortown, Louisiana, where he managed his grandfather's rental properties.  He and his sister, Valerie, then opened a bar and music club, The Taylortown Store Tavern, and hosted live music events and was the site of music videos.  In the past 220 years, he has become a general contractor and built numerous houses at Taylortown and rented them out.  He also has managed family and friend investments ad properties.  He has been a life long musician, focusing on drums, piano, and guitars.  He had a big heart and loved helping others.  He cared for many stray animals that would have no homes were it not for him.

He is survived by his mother, Maurice Cambre; father, Hodges Mercer; step-mother, Paula Mercer; sister, Valerie Seiman; niece, Riley Seiman; nephew; Daxton Seiman; step-sister, Melissa LeBlanc; and the love of his life and partner, Dr. Dandan He.
