John David Murphy

John David Murphy, 77 years old, was a resident of Winnfield, LA for many years.  He was born April 21, 1945 in DeQueen, AR.  He passed away on February 11, 2023 after a brief illness.

John was preceded in death by his parents Leva Murphy of Batesville, AR and Marion Carpenter of Calvin, LA.  He is survived by his two sisters Ann Lee and Nora Knittiz, his step sister and brother – Shirley Brewton and Mike Carpenter, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

John graduated from Calvin High School in 1963.  He served in the United States Navy for four years and was a Vietnam veteran.  He attended Louisiana Tech University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences Degree with a major in English.

John worked as an English teacher for many years before doing computer programming for Walmart Corporation for several years.  John also did security work for Pinkerton and Haliburton.  He retired after working for many years as a mud logger in the oil field.

He enjoyed eating with his friends at the Winnfield Council on Aging and during visits with family.  He also enjoyed taking his boat out on the lake and going fishing with friends or family.

Memorial Services were held for John at the Winnfield COA and at Open Door Bible Church with Mike Carpenter officiating.  John’s final resting place will be in the Veteran’s Cemetery in Keithville, LA.
