JoAnn Boone, age 81, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, in Bossier City, Louisiana.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 3200 Airline Drive, Bossier City, Louisiana. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m.
JoAnn was born on December 9, 1943, to Joseph Drebern and Frances Harris Boone at Nan Travis Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Texas.
Since her father was stationed in Brazil during the war, JoAnn did not meet her dad until the end of World War II. She enjoyed countless hours with her beloved grandmother, Etta "Mama" Morris Harris, who taught her to play piano and always offered a loving place for the cousins to gather.
Along with her sister, Betty, she lived in various places, including Alto and Yorktown, Texas. As part of Yorktown's First Annual Western Days Celebration, JoAnn was crowned Queen Kroy I in 1962. She attended Sam Houston State College and a few years later completed studies at Durham Business College in Victoria, Texas.
She became a military wife in the 1960s, a mom in the 1970s and traveled the country, moving to Bossier City, Louisiana in the 1980s. Here, she raised her children and worked as a secretary, a substitute teacher and in the public library.
Nana, as she came to be known, eventually settled in beautiful Natchitoches in the 1990s and spent nearly 30 years there, enjoying her family and friends, First United Methodist Church, her pets, gardening, bingo, and watching basketball on television.
Though East Texas was where she felt most at home, Nana spent her final days living near her family in Shreveport/Bossier, catching up with her favorite TV shows, calling friends and enjoying lots of dark chocolate.
Predeceased by her parents, her survivors include her Sister: Betty (Wayne) McKethan; Children: Lisa (Jim) Lovewell, Karen (Andy) Meadows, and Mark (Kristen) Johnson; Grandchildren: Katherine and Amanda Lovewell; Drake and Zachary Johnson; and Mason, John and Ryan Rabalais; Great-Grandchildren: Nicole and Alyssa Prothro; as well as extended family and numerous friends.
JoAnn's sweet smile will be deeply missed but forever remembered by her family and friends.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Brookdale Senior Living and Cypress Point Rehabilitation, both in Bossier City. JoAnn made many new friends there among the caregivers and residents.
Appreciation is also extended to Boone Funeral Home in Bossier City for their services.
In lieu of flowers, consider honoring JoAnn by giving a love offering at your church or a donation to the Parkinson's Foundation.
