Shreveport, LA--Jerome Orr, a retired broadcaster, passed away Saturday in a Shreveport hospital, following a long struggle with Parkinson's and Lewy Bodies Dementia. Jerome was born in El Dorado, AR, on September 27, 1936, and began his radio career at KELD when he was a teenager. His passion for radio took him to Hobbs, NM, and stations in Lubbock, Longview, and Midland, TX. He was a former president of the Arkansas Broadcasters' Association, and a member of the New Mexico Board of Broadcasters. He had been a Dale Carnegie instructor and a member of the Rotary Club. He was active in the Baptist Church and most recently was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church in Baton Rouge, LA, where he had been in the choir. He sang with his first quartet when he was in Hugh Goodwin Elementary. He was an active singer in a barbershop group in Longview. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Letha Orr, and his sister, Emily Honeycutt. Surviving him are his wife, Margie Weathersby Orr; daughter, Dr. Kimberly Orr of Washington, DC; son, Paul Orr of Tyler, TX; and his sister, Etaugh Francis of Dallas, TX. Others who loved him and will miss his gentle humor are aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and those who worked with and knew him through the years. Services will be Wednesday at 1:00 PM at Boone's Funeral Home in Bossier City, LA, with burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Haughton. Pallbearers will include nephews Peter York, Eddie Weathersby, Wayne Weathersby, Miguel Montalvo, John Bruce Honeycutt and radio associate, David Stewart. Memorials may be sent to the National Parkinson's Foundation. Jerome Orr, on the air—up there.
