Jeffrey S. DeLaune

Jun 22, 1955 — Oct 10, 2026

Our sweet, kind, and patient husband, dad and papa, Jeffrey Scott DeLaune “Jeff” passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at his home in Bossier City, Louisiana, surrounded by his family.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 17, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Bossier City, with Reverend Donnie Wilkinson officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., preceding the service.

Jeff was born in Swindon, England on June 22, 1955, to Harvey Preston DeLaune and Aileen Ada Moore DeLaune. He was a military child and lived with his family at many different assignments. Jeff loved to talk about the joys of being a young kid living on the island of Guam. His father retired at Barksdale Air Force Base and Bossier City had been home for him since 1969.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Wade Johnston DeLaune, his sister Claudine DeLaune Blondeau and his grandson Victor DeLaune Bankert.

A 1973 Parkway High School graduate, Jeff earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Sociology from Northwestern State University in 1976. After working for Aetna Insurance as a claims adjuster, he was accepted to Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University and was awarded a Juris Doctor in May 1983. Jeff and his father Harvey practiced law together in Bossier City until Harvey’s death in 2009. Jeff continued as a solo practitioner until June 2026.

He was a member of the Bossier Bar Association and the Louisiana State Bar Association. From 1985 until June 2026, Jeff served as an Assistant District Attorney and Special Prosecutor for the 26th Judicial District for Bossier and Webster Parishes. During his career, he served under three elected District Attorneys.

Jeff was a member, officer and president of the Bossier City Rotary Club, the Lions Eye Bank and Bossier Parish Communications District #1. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bossier City since 1978 where he held many offices and volunteer positions, most recently. His favorite volunteer job was serving as barista at FUMC Bossier Connexions Café. For the last six years, Jeff and Linda, along with the Johnsons and Dymonds, had the privilege of serving lunch each month at Hope House.

Jeff was an LSU fan of all sports, especially LSU baseball. He and Linda were members of the Krewe of Gemini for many years, and he could sling some beads. Jeff ran track at Parkway and completed two Louisiana marathons, many local 5k and 10k races and several Crescent City Classic races in New Orleans.

He was proud of his many accomplishments but would not hesitate to tell you his greatest joy in life was his family. Jeff and Linda met at Northwestern State University after being introduced by lifelong friends Sue and Lane Johnson. There is a story there that has been embellished by Jeff and Lane over the last 50 years. Married at Noel UMC in 1978, Jeff and Linda raised their

three children in Bossier City and worked together for more than 30 years. He always said Linda was really his boss.

His family will always cherish “Papa/Jeff jokes,” his calm spirit, his ability to fix anything and his overwhelming love for his family. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Linda Winningham DeLaune, daughter Sarah Catherine Dottolo and husband Jimmy, son James Preston DeLaune and wife Carey, and daughter Elizabeth Anne “Liz” DeLaune and her partner, Jonathan Becker. The true lights of his life were his grandchildren, Austin Robert Bankert, Carter James Bankert, Madeline Marie DeLaune and Macy Elizabeth “Macy Beth” DeLaune. He loved attending baseball games, dance recitals, The Nutcracker, rodeos and all the important events in their lives. Jeff had also achieved the special status of “sister” from Beverly Winningham Capley, Kay Winningham Hawkins and Jane Winningham Wood.

Jeff’s family would like to thank our church family at FUMC Bossier, all of our friends and neighbors, Scott McRight, MD, Anne Boteler, NP, the fifth floor and seventh floor staff at Willis Knighton Pierremont Hospital and Amedisys Home Health and Hospice.
