James Edwin Scott, a man of profound dedication and a true seeker of adventure, passed away on April 18, 2026 at the age of 80. Born on March 23, 1946, in Leesville, Louisiana, James lived a life defined by service—to his country, his city, and his family. Visitation will be held Tuesday April 21, 2026 at Boone Funeral Home.
At the age of 19, James answered the call to serve by joining the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he returned home to begin what would become a distinguished 28-year career with the Shreveport Fire Department. A natural leader known for his steady hand and bravery, James rose through the ranks, officially becoming a Captain in February 1981. To his fellow firefighters, he was a pillar of the department—dependable, courageous, and always ready to lend a helping hand to a brother in need or a citizen in danger.
James was a man who rarely sat still. While protecting the city at the fire station, he also successfully owned and operated a mobile home moving business for over 20 years. He was respected across North Louisiana for his work ethic and his ability to handle any challenge with grit and a smile.
To James, the world was full of hidden treasures just waiting to be discovered. Beyond his professional life, he was a man of the outdoors and a seeker of stories. An avid fisherman and hunter, he spent countless sunrise hours in the woods of North Louisiana and on the quiet waters of the Red River. When he wasn’t tracking game or waiting for a bite, he could often be found with a metal detector in hand, “treasure hunting” for hidden pieces of history. He had a unique ability to find beauty in the forgotten and a story in every relic he unearthed.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Marjorie Scott, as well as his grandparents.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda; two daughters, Tammy McKenzie and husband Joey of Plain Dealing, LA, and Kimberly Cason and husband Jimmy of Lake Panasoffkee, FL; and his son, James Brady Scott and wife Kim of Linden, TX. He is also survived by his two sisters, Marjorie Ann Rebollo and husband Sylvio, and Ina Carol Mathews; his two granddaughters, Lauren and Hannah McKenzie; two grandsons, Hunter and Coy Cason; his nephew, Jay Williams; and a host of extended family and friends.
Family would like to give a huge thank you to the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Home and Bristol Hospice.
