James Lee Glidewell (Poppie) was born November 4, 1951, in Ukiah, California, and passed peacefully on February 14, 2022.
Dad was a loving father, and a compassionate friend to anyone willing to stop and talk. A man who was passionate about cooking, painting, war documentaries, and devoted to his work and family.
There is a boundless list of people who will remember him for a great many things but perhaps the greatest of those is the unforgettable set of strong but gentle work tattered hands that could put anything back together no matter how small. If he were to be asked his greatest accomplishment it would without a doubt be the 21 years of meritorious service, he gave to the United States Navy. Better known then as UT1 Glidewell he maintained a reputation as a strict but fair leader dedicated to doing his job diligently and to the best of his ability every time. A career riddled with accolades UT1 Glidewell laid the foundation for many bases around the world and set the gold standard for all future generations of Seabee.
James Glidewell was preceded in death by Kristine Bekker Glidewell, Ina Lynn Glidewell, and his parents Harvey and Ruth Glidewell, his son Aaron Glidewell, and his brother Pete Clayton. He is survived by his children, Amy, Amber, James, Tyler, and Samuel. His grandchildren Aaron, Tristen, Charlotte, Katherine, Davey, Aspen, and Silas, his great-grandchildren Jacob and Dakoda, sister Gloria Glidewell, and his life partner Brenda Sanborn.
We will carry his memory with us forever as will the many people whose lives he touched along the way.
