James Compton

James “Jamie” Compton, age 63 of Benton, Louisiana, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 leaving behind a life filled with laughter, adventure, and unforgettable moments.

Jamie was born on November 27, 1961 in Magnolia, Arkansas and was raised with a love for the outdoors which he carried into his adult life, from having a fishing pole in his hand, to his weekends dedicated to hunting or the numerous mud-riding trips with his buddies.

Jamie also loved Mardi Gras; the parades, the floats, the camaraderie, and the spirit of the season. Whether wearing purple, green, and gold beads or savoring king cake, he brought that same festive energy to every aspect of his life.

Jamie’s dedication extended beyond the outdoors. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his wife; Diana Compton, five children; Jimmy Compton, Jinny Weir and her husband Tony, Christina Gregory and her husband Shane, James Compton and his wife Kimberly, Shayne Compton and his fiancé Alli, and Lacie McLaughlin. Eight grandchildren; Haley Compton and her fiancé Joshua, Emily Reese, Kaydence Gregory, Alena Gregory, Kyleigh Compton, Brooklyn Compton, AJ McKibben, and EJ McKibben. Siblings; Rickie Compton, Paul Compton, Charlie Compton and his wife Tonnie, and Philip Lemay and his wife Melissa. Jamie is also survived by his dear niece, Angela McKenzie, a nephew Michael Orlando who was special to him. Always by his side when possible, guess you could say his partner in crime. With those two you never knew what to expect, a large group of nieces and nephews who all held him close to their hearts, and his faithful puppy, Willis Compton, who was always by his side.

Jamie is proceeded in death by his parents, Carl Young and Ruth Compton and friend Dennis Davis.

A memorial service to celebrate Jamie’s life will be held at a later date. A special thanks from the family to Vanessa at Heritage Manor and Karen Budwah. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jamie’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
