Gerd H. Feierlein

June 2, 1944 — April 8, 2025

Gerd Horst Feierlein, born on June 2, 1944, to Maria and Hans Feierlein, passed away peacefully at home on April 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, following an extended journey with dementia.

Gerd grew up in Munich, Germany, and loved spending time with his relatives in Austria. He was a skilled soccer player and enjoyed relaxing with friends after a game, playing cards and drinking beer at his favorite local Guest Haus, where he met Renate, the love of his life.

After a brief period apart, Gerd joined Renate in the United States in 1966 to begin a new chapter. They settled in Bossier City where Gerd discovered his true talent and passion for carpentry. Four years into his apprenticeship at age 27, Gerd won a statewide competition, ranking first in the written exam and excelling in the construction of a small building. He represented Louisiana in Detroit, MI, where he placed in the Top 10. Shortly thereafter, he became a journeyman carpenter and eventually a General Contractor, founding his own company, GHF Construction. Known for his dedication, craftsmanship, and willingness to lend a hand or a hammer, Gerd committed himself to mentoring his employees, who were like family to him. He developed a loyal customer base, built a home that reflected his Bavarian heritage, and maintained a workshop that rivaled Home Depot. Our beloved Mr. Fix-It will be greatly missed!

Gerd was a fun-loving guy with a great sense of humor, highlighted by the license plate on his work van that read, WHASUP. When he wasn’t piddling around with his latest project, he was as enthusiastic about American football as he was about European ‘futball’. He faithfully followed FC Bayern Munich, his hometown soccer team, and was a proud LSU Tigers fan, evident by an extensive collection of memorabilia and coach’s autographs prominently displayed in his office. Gerd had a passion for NASCAR (and even more memorabilia), with many of his fondest memories being weekends spent attending live races with close friends. He was a devoted Ducks Unlimited member (did I mention memorabilia?), a seasoned outdoorsman and avid hunter. Gerd had a special love for Colorado, not only because of his successful first elk hunt, but also due to the majestic mountains reminiscent of Germany, ski trips, and many other adventures enjoyed with treasured friends.

Gerd embraced his Louisiana life, always up for a crawfish boil, fish fry, or Happy Hour. His love of beer and Mexican food was legendary, and he never met a hot sauce he didn’t like.

Gerd also never met a stranger and will be remembered for his warm smile, generous spirit, friendliness, and unwavering love for family and friends. His legacy endures in his many construction projects, remodels, and the hearts of those who knew him.

Left behind to cherish Gerd’s memory and impressive beer stein collection is his wife of 59 years, affectionately known as “Kitty”, daughters Linda and Manuela, eldest brother, Peter (Edith), brother-in-law, Manfred, and beloved cousin, Petra, along with two nephews. He will forever be “Opa” to Ramona and Ylvie, while his big sister, Gisela and life-long best friend, Richard, were probably waiting for him with open arms.

The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated Gentiva Hospice nurses and the “200 Block” for their kindness and compassion. They are a true blessing and greatly appreciated!
