Floyd L. Hoskins

March 5, 1943 — April 27, 2025

Floyd Lee Hoskins, age 82, passed away on April 27, 2025.  He was born on March 5, 1943, in Kankakee, Illinois, to the late General and Grace Hoskins.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Hoskins.  Floyd is survived by his nephews Brad and Jeff, sons of Jerry.

A proud veteran, Floyd served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1981, with assignments around the world--including Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Germany, and across the United States.  He specialized in communications, maintaining aircraft radios and emergency systems--skills rooted in a lifelong passion for electronics and radio.

After retiring from the Air Force, Floyd continued to serve through civil service and then worked for over 25 years at Shreveport Communications where he built a second career grounded in technical excellence and dedication.

Floyd earned his amateur "ham" radio license at just 11 years old and remained active in the radio community throughout his life.  In retirement, he spent countless hours building and repairing radios alongside friends in his local ham radio club, sharing knowledge and fellowship.  He also had a deep love of astronomy, spending quiet evenings stargazing and reflecting on the vastness of the universe.

On July 23, 1964, Floyd married his high school sweetheart, Emma "Janie" Burnley, whom he met in the band where he played the French horn and she the clarinet. Music remained a constant in his life. While stationed in Louisiana, he served as Minister of Music at Bossier Baptist Temple, using his talents to uplift and inspire.

Floyd is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Janie, and their four children:

*Daniel Hoskins, married to Robyn, with daughters Amanda, Danielle, and Lizz

*Grace Harr, married to Dennis, with sons Matthew (wife Ashley, children Lorelei and Wyatt) and Nathan

*David Hoskins, married to Cherry, with children Benjamin, Halle, and Audrey

*John Hoskins, married to Mary, with children Danna (married to Ethan Powell, children Emma Jane, Ruby, and Maggie),   Anne (married to Brooks Meyer, son Llewyn), Emily, Megan, Allison (married to Michael Kraemer, son Eli), and Jonah General.

Floyd will be remembered for his unwavering faith, steady character, technical brilliance, and generous heart.  Whether leading worship, repairing radios, mentoring others, or looking up at the stars, he lived a life filled with meaning, love, and service.

His legacy will continue in the lives of his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and all those fortunate enough to know him.
