In Loving Memory of Elizabeth “Janet” Micalett

Our beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, Elizabeth “Janet” Micaletti, lovingly known as Jan, was truly an angel on this earth. She possessed the kindest heart and most compassionate soul of anyone who knew her. She gave freely, always putting others before herself and never expecting anything in return. Her gentle spirit, unwavering generosity, and genuine kindness touched countless lives.

To her daughter, Jan was more than a (my) mother, she was my rock, my best friend, and my greatest blessing. There was never a day we didn’t talk. She was the person I called through every joy, every heartbreak, and every milestone. She was my constant source of love, strength, and encouragement. Losing her has left a void that can never be filled, but I am forever grateful for the unconditional love she gave me every day of my life.

Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren, Bryson and Kinsley. She loved them more than life itself and never missed an opportunity to celebrate them. Whether it was cheering at Bryson’s baseball games, celebrating birthdays, or simply spending time together, she poured her whole heart into being the most loving “Mimi” they could ever ask for. She showed up for them in every possible way and made sure they always knew how deeply they were loved.

Jan lived her life as a reflection of her unwavering faith in the Lord. She believed in seeing the good in everyone and approached each day with kindness, grace, and love. She had an extraordinary gift for making people feel welcomed, valued, and special. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer words of encouragement, or simply be there for someone in need. She lived the way Jesus taught us to live—with compassion, generosity, humility, and unconditional love.

Jan was blessed to spend her career doing what she truly loved as the Museum Director and Curator of the Barksdale Global Power Museum with the United States Air Force. She took great pride in preserving history, honoring those who served our country, and sharing that history with others. Her work was more than a career—it was her passion, and she left a lasting legacy through the museum and the many lives she touched.

Jan also found great joy in caring for her yard and planting beautiful flowers and trees. Just as she nurtured her garden, she nurtured the people around her with patience, compassion, and selfless love. She worked hard in everything she did and always gave more than was expected of her. She saw beauty in everyone and everything and inspired those around her to do the same.

Whether you knew Jan as Mom, Mimi, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, or the welcoming face of the Barksdale Global Power Museum, you knew someone who made the world brighter simply by being in it. Her laughter brought joy, her presence brought comfort, and her love made everyone feel at home. She taught us, not only with her words but by her example, how to live with faith, kindness, generosity, and grace.

Though our hearts are broken by her passing, we find comfort knowing she is now resting in the loving arms of Jesus. Her light will continue to shine through every life she touched, and her love will remain forever in our hearts.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Lopez; her grandmother, Stella Sedillo; and her grandfather, Jesus Sedillo.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Lesley McWhorter, and son-in-law, Jeffrey McWhorter; her cherished grandchildren, Bryson McWhorter and Kinsley McWhorter; her mother, Rosemary Lopez; her siblings, Henry Lopez and wife Jeanette, Ben Lopez and wife Alice, Beverly Barela and husband Marvin, Geraldine Aragon and husband Joseph, David Lopez and wife Gail, Isabelle Creith, Rosemary Zamora and husband Michael, Leonella Martinez, Adolph Lopez and wife Kathleen, and Ronnie; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
