Earl Gaddy

Earl Houston Gaddy, 92, of Bossier City, died September 6, 2024 in the care of Hospice at the Carpenter House in Shreveport.

Earl was born in Isola, MS, to Roy Calvin and Alice Varnelle (Truelove) Gaddy on April 26, 1932. He grew up in the Clarksdale, MS area and graduated from Sunflower High School in 1950. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Earl loved being in the military and served as a radio operator and navigator on the KC-135, stationed in Bossier City, LA, Italy, France, Hawaii, San Antonio, TX, Philippines, and Vietnam. After 22 years of service, he retired honorably as a Master Sgt. During his time in the service, he was awarded the Air Force Accommodation medal. Upon retirement from the Air Force, he went to work for Eckerd Drug Stores as store manager in Bossier City, LA. After 22 years he retired for good.

In 1955 he was united in marriage to Nancy Selby. Together they had three sons: Gary, Gregory, and Wayne. Earl and Nancy divorced in 1990.

In 2005, he was united in marriage to Georgie Moore.

Earl could be a cheerful soul, liked to tease and laugh. For years, had a coffee group every morning at a local café where they solved all the problems of the world or reminisced on the good old days. He liked to golf, fish and garden. In his early years he liked to go dancing at the NCO Club and see movies at the Base Theater. He learned to fly small planes and earned his pilot’s license. He was adored by his 31 nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his loving wife Georgie; sons Gary L. (Mary Beth) Gaddy, Gregory E. Gaddy, and Wayne C. Gaddy; step-daughter Tammie Bell; grandchildren: Megan (Joel) Hynes, Chad (Amy) Gaddy, Taylor (Gavin) Carr, Caroline (Dylan) Nowak and Sabrina White; six great-grandchildren (with one more expected in 2025); sisters Loyce (Bill) Marshall and Joyce (Vernon – deceased) Carpenter; sisters-in-law Joyce (John) Gaddy and Wanda (Herbert) Gaddy.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Alice Gaddy; sisters Ione (Rip) Jackson, Lynne (Jack) Taylor; brothers Homer (Mary) Gaddy, Ralph (Blondie) Gaddy, Lamon (Annette) Gaddy, John (Joyce) Gaddy and Herbert (Wanda) Gaddy.

A memorial service will be held at Boone Funeral Home, 2156 Airline Dr, Bossier City, LA, on Monday, September 16, at Noon.
