Dorothy Sue Hemphill Fant was born on January 10, 1936, in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana and she departed this world on March 31, 2022, aged 86 years. She was a devout Christian who firmly believed in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was until her health declined an active member of Emanuel Baptist Church of Shreveport. She married the love of her life, Robert A. “Bobby” Fant on January 16, 1952, and remained married to him till his death in 2008. Their union produced two children, Major Fant and Susan Fant Votaw. Sue worked for several years for the Poulan / Weedeater Corporation , eventually heading the Accounts Payable Department, while it was headquartered in Shreveport. She retired from the company when it moved to Nashville, Ark. Sue was in years past very active with The Pelican Council of the Girl Scouts. Sue loved working with young people and helping them to mature into productive citizens. Sue came from a large family with two brothers and three sisters of which she was the last remaining sibling. She was especially close to her youngest sister, Linda whom she spent many hours fishing on Lake D’Arbonne. Sue was a great care-giver devoting hours to seeing to the well-being of, Robert, her mother-in-law, Maudie Fant and her sister Linda during their declining years. Sue is preceded in death her husband, Robert, her mother, Gertrude and her father Robert Hemphill, her brothers Robert “Bobby” Hemphill, Robert “Junior” Hemphill, Jr, her sisters, Lonnie Dee Lewis, Jo Czernick and Linda Gorton and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Left to cherish her memories are her son R, Major Fant and wife Jennifer of Belcher, LA, daughter, Susan Fant Votaw of Shreveport, grandson, John L. Votaw, Jr and wife Marcie, great grandchildren, Johnathan, Richard and Harrison, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of The Glen and the staff of Lifepath Hospice for the excellent care they gave her. Graveside services will be Monday, April 4th, 2022 , 11 am, at Hasley Cemetery, West Monroe, Louisiana, led by Rev. Chad Hardbarger of Emanuel Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to either POLA animal rescue, the Gideons International, or Emanuel Baptist Church.
