David O'Hara Hope

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Shreveport’s Frost Chapel, 543 Ockley Drive, Shreveport, LA. Officiating the service will be Pastor Ken Richmond.

David O’Hara Hope, 74, a lifelong resident of Benton, Louisiana, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on January 2, 1950 to Roy Gaston and Edith Raye Hope. He attended Benton High School until his junior year and graduated from Plain Dealing High School in 1969.

David was drafted to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War in 1970. Upon returning home, he set out to serve on the Shreveport Fire Department, from which he later retired.

David held many titles in his life, from master carpenter to Fire Captain, but his favorite role was being a father. David was the biggest cheerleader for his youngest daughter, Morgan. Despite spending many of his later years in and out of the hospital, his joy of being a dad was paramount.

Outside of his work and family, David also enjoyed working with his hands, and carpentry was a passion of his for many years. He would eventually build the home of his dreams that he would raise Morgan in. David was a talented cook, and he so enjoyed cooking for others as a way of showing his love. He also enjoyed cars, fishing, and hunting.

David was preceded in death by his parents and eldest brother, Jimmy Hope. David is survived by his daughters, Morgan Hope and husband, Brandon Burks, Valerie Wilson and husband, Greg Giblin; grandchildren, Seamus and Harvey Giblin; brothers, Donnie Hope and wife, Janet, James Hope and wife, Stephanie; sisters, Maxine Wilson and husband, Jerry, Christine Gibson; and sister-in-law, Caroline Hope.
