Daniel Victor Moyer, 74, died suddenly at his home in Athens Louisiana, on 13 March, 2026.
Dan retired from the United States Airforce in 1976. Dan then served within the U.S. Air Force Reserve until 1981, and later worked for the United States Civil Service, retiring in 2007. Dan was a Flight Engineer and Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic for the Air Force, working on both the Lockheed C-141 Starlifter, and the Fairchild A-10 Thunderbolt II. Dan retired as a Master Sergeant, and was commended several times for outstanding achievement while assigned to the 717th Maintenance Squadron, 917th Maintenance Group, 917th Wing, at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana.
At home, Dan’s hobby was collecting die-cast models of aircraft, muscle cars, hot rods, trucks, and utility equipment such as fire engines, tow trucks, service vehicles, and oil tankers. He was also an avid reader. Dan had a quiet but strong sense of humor, and was popular in his family.
Dan was predeceased by his wife Florence in September, 2009. Florence was a successful romance novel author. Dan then became the loving and devoted single caregiver for their only child, autistic son Matthew, now 44. Dan is survived by a sister and 4 brothers, 9 nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. Dan will be greatly missed by all.
