Cynthia Demler

May 21, 1954 — April 10, 2024

Bossier City

Cynthia June Parker Demler, “Cindy” to her friends and loved ones, was born on May 21, 1954, to Walter Ernest Parker and Joy Kelley Parker in Shreveport, Louisiana, and sadly passed away on April 10, 2024, in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Cindy’s childhood home was on Anthony Street in Bossier City.  She attended Central Park Elementary, Rusheon Junior High School and Bossier High School where she graduated in 1972.  She was a proud Bearkat and loved her time there.  Although Cindy could be shy, she made many lifelong friends at Bossier High School and participated in activities such as Key Club , Pep Kats, and the Annual Beauty pageant.  Cindy attended Bossier Parish Community College for two years.  It was during this time that Cindy met Mike Demler, whom she would marry in 1976.  They would remain married and fiercely protective of each other for 48 years.

Cindy began her first career in personal finance where she became branch manager of General Finance in Shreveport and then held the same position at Signature Loans in Bossier City.  She later changed careers to insurance, where she worked at GEICO in Bossier City and later became sales manager at Darrell McEachern State Farm Insurance in Shreveport where she happily worked for over 20 years.  Cindy enjoyed serving her customers so much so that when she left any of her jobs, many would follow her to the next stop!  Cindy finally retired in 2015 to her home on Sunflower Boulevard in south Bossier City due to health reasons that had affected her ability to continue working.

From early childhood, Cindy had a big heart for animals, and, late in life, she loved her rescue cats, Mr. Kitty and Koko.   Cindy enjoyed classic movies, vintage television series and westerns, and was a devoted “Trekkie” to the very end.   You always knew what she would be doing at 7 pm each evening when “Star Trek” reruns would be on television!

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and her long-missed sister, Julie Turner.  Left to cherish her sweet memory are her husband, Michael Arthur Demler; sons, Michael Arthur Demler, Jr. and Matthew Todd Demler; sister, Elizabeth Gibson, and husband Johnny; nieces, Jennifer Graham, and Katie Mcintosh; nephew, Derek Turner, and wife Kendra; cousin Kara Kelley, and other wonderful, caring cousins and extended family.

On the Sunday following her passing, a baby Cardinal came into Cindy’s old room through an open window!  Recalling the adage “angels are near when Cardinals appear”, her family took this to be a sure sign that she had made it through okay and was now in a beautiful place!

Special thanks to her eldest son, Michael A. Demler, Jr., who home cared for Cindy over the past nine years, and to her special, lifelong best friend, Dianne Smith Swilley.
