Brenda Watson

Stray cats and dogs will mourn the passing of our sister, Brenda Bennett Watson, 73, of Shreveport, Louisiana. She left us on June 5, 2026, at 3:30 a.m. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Boone Funeral Home of Bossier City, Louisiana. The memorial service will be held at a future date.

Brenda was born in Delhi, Louisiana on April 29, 1953, to Floye and Stephen Bennett. She graduated from Southwood High School in 1972. Brenda was a lifelong member of Summer Grove Baptist Church. She was trained in accounting and held various jobs in Louisiana before being accounts payable for Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing in Fort Worth, Texas for many years.

Brenda leaves behind two sisters, Gloria McClure (Mike) and Virginia Murphy, one brother, Stephen Larry Bennett, three nephews and one niece. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jeffery Allen Bennett.

Brenda was a compassionate person that loved animals and she had many pets over the years including Mastiffs named Temple and Terra. She enjoyed studying about Native Americans and in her heart, she felt she was one of the tribes. Brenda liked vegetable gardening (especially peppers), cooking, reading (CJ Box), and movies. Her nephew Jeremy told me that Brenda was warm and welcoming, and she would spend time with him when he was very young watching movies. He appreciated being included and he felt she cared about him.

We recall many family excursions with our sister. Fishing trips to Caddo Lake where we all sat on the bank with a cane pole using a red and white bobber waiting for a nibble. There were outings to Lake O’ the Pines where Dad cooked hamburgers while us kids were swimming. When Brenda was a bit older, she became expert at building a good campfire and wickiups. We sat for hours next to the fire, eating snacks and watching the stars and moon.

Brenda’s family wishes to thank Ochsner LSU Health Cardiac Team for their expertise and professionalism while addressing her illness, the nurses and staff on 7J for their sensitivity and to Colonial Oaks Nursing Home and Bristol Hospice for their concern of our sister during the last few days of her life.
