Alvis John Abshire

With all the love of his family surrounding him, Alvis John Abshire, 78, passed away peacefully from this life into the waiting arms of his Lord and Savior on November 19, 2020. Born of Hazel Hebert and Pierre Abshire in Kaplan, Louisiana on February 5th, 1942, Alvis was the eldest brother to Wesley Pierre Abshire, Russell Wayne Abshire, Ellen Menard, Richard Abshire, Mahlan LeBlanc, all of which preceded him in death. Alvis is survived by his brother Gerald Lee Abshire and sister Linda Abshire. Alvis is also survived by the love of his life, Ethel Rose Broussard Abshire with whom he was married to for 57 years. Their life together gave them three beautiful daughters, Donna Abshire Renard (Keith), Rachel Abshire Crowley (Rob), and Natalie Abshire. Natalie’s untimely passing weighed heavily on Al’s heart in his last year. His grandchildren, Andrew Ford (Alice) of Dallas, Tx, Aaron Ford (Heather) of Bossier City, La, Tristan Michael Halbrook of Los Angeles, Ca, and Jacob Ward of Bossier City, La. were the light in his life. Al was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, Amelia, Coleson, Brynabeth, and Kynleigh. In Kaplan, Alvis was a high school football player. This led to his lifelong love, and often frustration, with the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints. He was also boy scout leader in Crowley, La. He learned the importance of meaningful relationships from his mentor, Hubert “Bert” Bertrand early in life. Those lessons of living a life of purpose were evident to all who knew him. During his working years, Alvis owned and operated, with his family, a portrait photography studio in Kaplan. His love of photography eventually found its way into the professional photofinishing business in Bossier City, La. His business catered to the very best photographers on a national level. He was recognized throughout the professional photography industry for his excellence and willingness to be a trusted partner in many boutique photography studios. Upon retiring from the business of photography, Al found a new passion in car sales and was a national award winner for the number of Corvettes sold in consecutive years. His easy going nature and honesty was respected equally by his clients and his peers. After retiring from his second career, Alvis devoted his time to community service at St. Jude’s Catholic Church as a treasurer and hospital visitation volunteer. Al was a lifelong monetary supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
