Aldona Susan Sabrinskas Arundel

June 28, 1935 — May 24, 2024

Haughton

Aldona Susan Sabrinskas Arundel left her earthly home of Haughton, LA on Friday May 24, 2024.  She was 88.

Aldona was born June 28, 1935 in Budvieciai, Lithuania, as the first child born to Viktoras and Alele Sabrinskas.  Upon the conclusion of World War II, she and her sister came to the United States as orphans.  Here she gained employment, taught herself the English language, earned her U. S. citizenship, and obtained her nursing degree at Boston College.  She would go on to enlist in the United States Air Force serving as a nurse for the country that offered her freedom.  She attained the rank of Captain, later resigning to raise her children.

Aldona met and married Major Lawrence Clayton Arundel, USAF, with whom she had four beloved children. They settled in Haughton, Louisiana, stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base.  Here, she worked during the day caring for their four children and keeping the home before going on to continue her nursing career, working nights at Bossier Medical Center.  Her passion for nursing led her to join as one of the founding group of nurses for Willis Knighton Home Health. There she served the community for two decades until retirement.

Preceding Aldona in death are her former husband, Major Lawrence Clayton Arundel, USAF, and her son, Phillip Gregory Arundel, whom we know she will rejoice to meet at Heaven’s gates.

Left to cherish her precious memory are her sister Jenny Hurtikant of Waterford, WI; three children- Adrienne and husband Chris Remedies of Plain Dealing, LA, Kevin Arundel of Shreveport, LA, and Scot Arundel of Shreveport, LA; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and her nieces and nephew.
