Alan Lynn Vowles, 84, of Bossier City, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Alan was born on April 18, 1941, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Hardwick Lynn Vowles and Eva Marian Wright Vowles.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life, Alan faithfully served in many callings and found great purpose in his service to others and to his faith.
At the age of 19, Alan proudly joined the United States Navy where he was assigned to the USS Yorktown CVS-10 and served as an Aircraft Engine Mech.
After completing his service, he returned home, where he married Tamyrra Ellyn Yeates and began raising his family. Together, they welcomed four children: Mark Donovan Vowles, Todd Alan Vowles, Trenton Vowles (Yeates), and Kimberlee “Tisha” Vowles.
He later met and married the love of his life, Margo Marilyn Martinez. Together, they raised five children: Christobal Lynn Vowles, Christina Francis Marian Vowles, Richard Alan Vowles, April Dawn Vowles, and Robert Scott Vowles.
Alan’s career took him to many places, eventually settling in Bossier City, Louisiana, where he worked in civil service at Barksdale Air Force Base. There, he served honorably as the Deputy Chief of 2nd Supply Squadron, retiring after 42 years of dedicated service.
In his retirement, Alan enjoyed life’s simple blessings like spending time with his cherished dogs, Maddie and Toby; although he could no longer fly as a private pilot, a life long enjoyment of his, he took up boating on the waters of Sportsman’s Paradise and making lasting memories with his grandchildren.
He also found great fulfillment in serving the LDS church in the Family History Department, continuing his lifelong devotion to faith and family.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter Kimberlee “Tisha” Vowles Horne and husband Brian; son Christobal Lynn Vowles; daughter Christina Vowles Lawhon and husband Reet; daughter April Vowles Costello and husband Chris; and son Robert Scott Vowles and wife Jessica. He is also survived by his twenty beloved grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Hardwick Lynn and Eva Marian Wright Vowles; his loving wife of 40 years, Margo Martinez Vowles; his sons Mark Donovan Vowles, Todd Alan Vowles, Trenton Vowles (Yeates), and Richard Alan Vowles; and his grandson Cody Lynn Vowles.
After Margo’s unexpected passing, Alan spent his final year surrounded by the love and support of his family.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to his doctors and care team at Willis-Knighton North, Booker T. Washington Nursing team, his home healthcare aides, and Gentiva Hospice, all of whom provided such compassionate care — just as they did for Margo a year prior.
Alan will be remembered for his humor, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to his family and faith. His legacy of love, service, and kindness will continue to live on through all who were blessed to know him.
Visitation and Services will be held at Boone Funeral Home in Bossier City, LA on November 14, 2025 at 11am. In lieu of flowers the family ask that any donations be made to The Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research or a charity of your choice.
