Marguerite L. Goin

d. March 8, 2016

Marguerite was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on October 24, 1952 to Levi Thomas and Antoinette John Goin. She died suddenly on the evening of March 8, 2016 following a very brief illness. The third child in a family of six siblings, Marg insisted that the world pay her notice. From early childhood, her huge personality appealed to and attracted people. She laughed often and loudly, entertaining any gathering, easily making new friends through her open and inviting way. Her early childhood battles with polio taught her to also become a fierce fighter. She knew no fear when challenging anyone, especially those in authority, if she believed inequality existed. Throughout her life, she remained alert to any opportunity to fight for those she believed to have been wronged. Marguerite graduated from Captain Shreve High School in 1970 and attended USL, in Lafayette. While working for the American Rose Center in 1977, she met and fell in love with Jim McDowell. Jim felt the same about his "Rose Lady", and he became her partner-for-life. Jim and Rose Lady shared a happy home life and had many adventures from the Gulf beaches to the Rocky Mountains. The couple has resided in Bossier City for over thirty years. Late in life, Marguerite called upon her strong will to battle Post-Polio Syndrome and Rheumatoid Arthritis. These debilitating conditions resulted in a weakened immune system, making her especially susceptible to the tragic illness which took her so suddenly. The many who loved her are greatly saddened by this tremendous loss. Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents and her loving sister, Cindy Matthews. She is survived by significant other Jim McDowell, sister Gee Gee and husband Mike Rasmussen, sister Carolyn Smith and husband Whit, sister Ann Stroker and husband Paul, brother Tom and wife Rossi Goin, brother-in-law Rick Matthews, dear friends Molly and Richard Gray, Jake McDowell, and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Marg will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
